Our school vision

Our school vision statement “Learning to bring out the best in everyone” sums up everything we believe in and underpins everything we do.  We promote high achievement and a love of learning so that each child will flourish in this ethos of support, challenge and encouragement to succeed. Our aim is that all children at Hotwells will enjoy the richness of their learning and that their primary school experience will be a happy and memorable one.

Our incredibly talented and innovative staff enjoy working as a team and provide opportunities for every child to succeed through experiencing quality learning in a stimulating environment. We enjoy working closely with parents and Governors to provide the very best resources to support children's learning across the curriculum.

We have a very broad definition of ‘learning’. As well as achieving academically, our children learn to express and develop their creativity and to develop as spiritual and social beings. In this way, children learn to be responsible citizens who can contribute positively to the world in which they live as well as having the skills they need to access the opportunities the world has to offer them.

Like all schools, we have a strategic plan which outlines what we are doing to keep our school moving forward. We have four goals in our strategic plan. They are:

1.Pupils achieve expected or value added attainment in the core subjects.

Staff have high expectations of pupil attainment. Each child is given the support or challenge they need to achieve to their full potential. We constantly review children’s progress and our teaching, looking for innovative ways to develop children’s learning experiences.

2.Pupils use information and communication technology (ICT) confidently in their learning.

We have an excellent ICT suite, an interactive whiteboard in every classroom and an increasing range of new technologies to support learning. We are constantly developing new and creative ways to use technologies in school. We teach children how to use the internet safely. We know that confident use of new technology is a vital life skill for all our children.

3.Pupils are creative confident learners and use effective thinking and communication skills.

We aim for our children to develop a love of learning that will stay with them throughout their lives. Our children see learning as exciting, social and rewarding. We teach children the skills they need to be successful learners using ELLI  and use a range of approaches, including philosophy, to develop thinking and communication skills

4.Pupils respect and show responsibility for themselves, each other and their environment.

We value children developing an understanding of how to respect and contribute to the social and physical world in which they live. We are currently developing our school council as a way of children learning citizenship skills. We have a Diversity and Inclusion Group which is helping us to continue to find ways in which we can value and celebrate our richly diverse local and global communities. We are further developing as an eco-school and hope to soon achieve our silver award. Children are learning about a range of ways in which they can look after the environment, from energy saving to composting!
